Published on the occasion of the landmark retrospective exhibition of the same name held at the Museum Folkwang Essen in 2001, which travelled on to various major venues in Europe in 2002. Presents Irving Penn's "Objects For The Printed Page". His stylish, ground-breaking, and highly influential commercial work that have stood the test of time and are now ranked among the great photographer's most important work: Magazine covers, editorial features, and advertisements. Taken over a period of sixty years, Irving Penn brought his impeccable eye to his prodigious commercial work. From his work for Vogue Magazine to the more autobiographical work of his later years, Penn explored the visual "intrigue" of luxury objects juxtaposed with such seemingly inconsequential objects as food, drinks, plants, and flowers, representing both Penn's and photography's rich Surrealist aesthetic. The resulting images are always exquisite and trademark-elegant. But they also possess the wit, edginess, and humanity that we identify with Irving Penn. "If Richard Avedon was a snapshot Delacroix, all fire and figures, Penn was Ingres with a Leica, all ravishing edges and perfect composition and a quality of deep color that was the envy of every other photographer" (Adam Gopnik). Irving Penn died on October 7, 2009 at the age of 92, his place in photographic history permanent and secure. An absolute "must-have" title for Irving Penn collectors. This title is a late-modern photography classic. This is one of very few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A scarce copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. Irving Penn's "Moments Preserved" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER IRVING PENN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN B004DRAWD6. Bookseller Inventory # 20290
