About this Item

One volume (trip is still ongoing as this volume ends. We do not have any later volumes) 5x6 inches, suede cover. All edges gilt. Titus was Captain in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army and was discharged February 24,1919. Diary pages of January to March are mostly blank until Dr. Titus, his wife Jeffrey and her maid begin a trip around the world. They begin their tour in Virginia, going souith to Pernambuco, Buenos Aires, Chile, Valparaiso, backup through Panama Cana, New Orleans, Grand Canyon, California, up to Alaska, then Manila, Japan, Korea, China, Colombo where diary ends. A small newspaper clipping laid in diary indicates that Dr. Titus was a "prominant physician of New York". He gives his address in diary as being New York City. He graduated from Yale in 1910 (whether undergrad or medical degree is not made clear). He is clearly quite wealthy (he purchased multiple fur coats, jewelry and dresses for his wife on the trip. ) In diary Titus notes that his wife, Mrs. Jeffrey Titus, was born July 13, 1897. Diary entries follow pattern of giving the weather, time of rising, list of day's activities, summary of how he feels at bedtime. Typical entry: (Wed 15 October) "Wonderfully clear and comfortable. .Up at 7:30 and had bum breakfast on boat. Landed at 10:30 late. Train is fine. American built and quite comfortable.etc. We cedrtainly are impressed by Kora. The country, train and hotel far ahead of anything in Japan". About 12 lines are written for each date from March to December. Very legible. Binding secure. Suede is worn and is shedding. Good. Bookseller Inventory # a88180
