FIRST EDITION OF THIS WORK ON THE ALPS OF AUSTRIA AND TYROL. Frank Smythe was one of the greatest mountaineers of his age, and was also a pioneer in mountain photography. He was also one of the greatest 20th century Alpine climbers and skiers and founded two new routes on the Brenva Face of Mont Blanc. His many published accounts of these expeditions are classics of the genre. During the Second World War he served in the Canadian Rockies as a mountaineer training officer for the Lovat Scouts.
