About this Item

8vo. pp. 7, [1], 181, [1]. Bound in green publisher’s cloth. Binding is generally fresh and clean with only minor signs of wear. The dust jacket is price clipped and shows general rubbing, wrinkling, edge and hinge wear etc. About 12 mm of the jacket head cap is chipped away (partly obscuring the spine title); the tail also shows chipping and splitting along the hinges. A 13 mm tear is present on the upper edge of the front wrap. The front end papers contain some very faint spotting. Interior pages are clean. Many leaves are unopened. Traugott Konstantine Oesterriech (1880-1949) was a German psychologist known for his research in religion, spirit possession and parapsychology. His book "Occultism and Modern Science" was first published in Dresden (1921). The English translation (taken from the 2nd German edition) appeared in London c. 1923 and the American edition was published at about the same time. According to Crabtree "looking chiefly at the phenomena produced by the mediums Helene Smith, Leonora Piper, Eusapia Palladino, and Eva C., he concludes that the tenets of spiritualism can be neither proved nor disproved." Chapter VI discusses Theosophy and Rudolf Steiner. [Crabtree 1807]. Bookseller Inventory # 000978
