About this title

The most complete collection of video on the fishes of the Hawaiian Archipelago, including the Johnston Atoll and Marshall Islands. The titles features include enhanced still photography, a visual index to fish families, fast-display maps of the Hawaiian archipelago, Latin name access, and extended morphology information on bony fishes. With more than 90 species, this CD-ROM features video of heretofore undocumented fish behavior on such subjects as mating, predation, camouflage, brooding, and nesting. For educators, students, scuba divers, aquarists, and lovers of the ocean, this series lets you view the inhabitants of the ocean as never before possible.

From the Publisher:

As with so many aspects of Hawaiis natural history, its underwater resources are unique, many endemic to the Hawaiian archipelago. Filming primarily in the waters from the Big Island to Maui and Lanai, the producers documented most of the commonly seen fish families in Hawaiian waters. The CD tells a story of recovering underwater populations due to long-standing efforts to preserve the states reefs and waters. Most telling is the comeback of Hawaiis green turtle populations, visible even to casual observers in the regions waters. While most divers spurn the states diving, the publishers have documented many extraordinary and overlooked aspects of the regions marine life. Of the families well represented in the region the acanthurids (surgeonfishes) and chaetodontidae (butterflyfishes) have an extraordinary diversity.
