Illustrated with 10 steel-engraved plates (including the illustrated title-page) and a chromolithograph presentation plate (with Odd-Fellow vignettes; lithographed by Ackerman). Contains many pieces on the principles and virtues of Odd-Fellowship, including an oration by C. Edwards Lester at the dedication of the Odd Fellows' Hall in New York. Includes some poems, anti-war pieces (e.g., "Peace; Or The Soldier's Return" by Felix Quinton, and "Sword-Culture" by Mrs. Sigourney), a piece on the customs of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the Biblical story of Belshazzar's feast, the story of Tetzel and Martin Luther, Rev. Chapin's "Konx-Om-Pax; Or, The Religious Significance of the Ancient Mysteries and Numerals," and other pieces. 8vo. 289 pp.; 11 plts. (incl. illus. t.-p.) Faxon 608. Publisher's pictorial gilt-stamped cloth, with some water damage at bottom outer corners. Ownership bookplate, inscription, and rubber-stamps on front endpapers.
