The California Western Railroad (popularly known as the "Skunk Train") was originally known as the Fort Bragg Railroad, built in 1885 to carry coast redwoods from the forests to the lumber mill in Fort Bragg. It was renamed the California Western Railroad and Navigation Company in 1905, added passenger service, and expanded to a total length of 40 miles, to Willits, California.
