Folio. 39.5cm, facsimile frontis portrait (author), facsimile title-page, & map, 100 facsimile double-page maps, index, brown cloth, gilt titles on front & spine, a fine copy. (ewc). - A work based on a survey carried out by John Ogilby (1600-1676) from 1669 to 1674, the first proper measurement of the roads of England and Wales ever carried out. Tremendously influential to British cartography, the book introduced the statute mile of 1760 yards and established the scale of one inch to one mile. One of the illustrator's is known to be the Bohemian etcher, Wenzel Hollar. Bookseller Inventory # 25503
