Book Description Privately Printed, Coffee Printing House, 1961. Soft cover. Book Condition: Fine. No Jacket. First Edition. Limited to 500 copies. Pages not numbered. Cawhaba or Cahaba was the site of Castle Morgan or Cahaba Prison during the Civil War. Some 3000 Union prisoners were held there in 1863-1865. Many, upon their release in early 1865 boarded the doomed Steamer Sultana and headed north to be mustered out of service. The Sultana exploded and burned to the waterline. It was April 1865 and the Mississippi was swollen several miles wide, cold and some 1800 soldiers died in the explosion and fire, most drowning in the fridge water. This little pamphlet gives the history of Cahawba and makes reference to Castle Morgan and the Sultana. A nice piece of ephemera. This is the true first edition. Scarce. Inscribed by the author. Also laid in is a note to the purchaser typed on the back of the little handout announcing the republishing of this pamphlet and others that Neville was publishing. Nice. Signed by Author(s).
