Tales of New Orleans from one of the great early modern southern writers, enhanced with "The Scenes of Cable's Romances" by => Lafcadio Hearn and a prologue by Edward Larocque Tinker. The illustrations ? a full-page frontispiece and eight full-page color plates, along with in-text vignettes ? were done by John O'Hara Cosgrave II and hand-colored by Charlize Brakeley, with additional typographic ornaments by the volume's designer, A.G. Hoffman. => This is one of 15 presentation copies. The colophon bears the LEC stamp noting that fact, as well as the artist's signature. Provenance: Very handsome gilt grey leather bookplate of Bernard and Roslyn Gittelson; the presentation at the colophon is to "B.G." When this book was printed Gittelson was the director of the New York State Legislation Committee on Discrimination. 8vo (25.9 cm, 10.2"). Col. frontis., xxxi, [1], 224, [2] pp.; 8 col. plts.
