About this title

Synopsis:

Judy Sutcliffe and Sandy Scott bought an old house in Galena, IL, and a new life. It came with moss and millipedes, old wood stoves, crumbling mortar, a squirrel in the chimney, a property line through the kitchen, and no closets. It also provided a lovely, livable, charming home with colorful, stone-walled gardens in what locals term The House of Seven Gables. Living in an historic home (earliest section over 180 years old) has its everyday adventures, and that's what this book is about, with short chapters easy to dip into for a quick read and a chuckle.

About the Author:

A versatile artist, author, and type designer, Judy Sutcliffe lives with one foot in Galena, IL, and the other in Mineral Point, WI, two of the most interesting historical communities in the country, just 45 miles apart. Judy and partner Sandy Scott own Longbranch Gallery in Mineral Point and call their quaint and art-filled house in Galena home. This is Judy's fourth book. Her previous works include A Collection of Old Men, 50 essays about 28 unusual friends; Grandma Cherry's Spoon, a true story of a family's battles with tuberculosis in the 1920s; Iowa Lyric, illustrated short poems about the Midwest's four seasons; and An Open Sky, a lifetime collection of love poems.
