First edition. Hardcover in navy blue cloth lettered in gilt. 376 pp. with index, bibliography. Illustrations. Very good or somewhat better, very minor wear at the tips, two small stains front pastedown., No jacket. A very scarce biography of American Revolution merchant and financier Oliver Pollock. Born in Ireland, he came to Pennsylvania in 1760 at age 23 and launched his career as a successful entrepreneur by supplying much needed flour to the Philadelphia area. By 1770 he was in New Orleans and by the beginning of thne American Revolution was a leading merchant and by 1779 was asssisting the Spanish in their war against the British in the new United States.
