About this Item

Dust jacket complete, unclipped. Brown cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership marks. pp.112. Illustrated with drawings and photographs clean and tight. Cruising in sailing dinghies and open boats is one of the least expensive and most rewarding kinds of sailing. This is a practical guide to the use of an ope' . centreboarder for cruising from port to port, or beach to beach, which many already undertake at week-ends and during holidays. For this purpose, John Glasspool envisages a boat between about eleven and eighteen feet and basing his recommendations on his own experience of many years, guides the reader in to the important matter of choosing the right boat. From there he goes on to discuss the gear needed and those aspects of seamanship which are called for in dinghies. Rigs and sails, camping ideas and then possible emergencies are covered and there are interesting chapters on some recent dinghy cruising feats and on club passage races which are staged from time to time. Forty nine line drawings, in an original style by Peter A. G. Milne, and a number of photographs of cruising dinghies and their equipment complete the only modern book on this appealing pursuit. Jacket painting by Stuart Beck. Size: 8vo. Bookseller Inventory # 138642
