About this Item

Stephanus Press, folio in speckled calf, rebacked with gilt titling and ornament. Woodcut title, with printer's mark and previous owner stamp of "John Hope, Advocate" twice on same. Printed at 42 lines per page in Royal Greek type, cut by Estienne and designed by Angelos Vergetios of Candia, whose Greek calligraphy is regarded as a peak of the art. Some waterstaining at bottom edges of first few leaves. Front flyleaf from rebacking is split near hinge about a third of the way from top. Despite its defects, this is still a very handsome copy.
