About this title

Synopsis:

Ophelia B. Clise, the proprietress of the Bazaar des Bears, finds new adventure with her friends when they accept an invitation to tea with the Queen of England.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 3 Up Few children will understand or enjoy this cloying, pretentious romp with toy bears. The slight story concerns Ophelia, a Parisian shopkeeper, and her friends, who take tea with the Queen of England and visit a tumble-down manor housecomplete with ghost. The rambling and often confusing storyline is further muddled by a clumsy writing style. Undoubtedly, the most interesting aspect of this book lies in its whimsical color photographs of the stuffed bears festooned with ribbons, flowers, and lace. The painstaking details found in these photographs provide an appropriate touch of humor. According to the jacket flap of the book, Ophelia and friends will soon be appearing in a line of greeting cards, and in fact, Ophelia's English Adventure is more a merchandising ploy than a book worthy of any consideration. Look out Muppet Babies; you've got some new competition! Denise A. Anton, Cornbelt Lib . System, Normal, Ill.
