Based on reviews of the existing Indian Treaties, Justice Marshall concluded that Indian Nations were separate political communities in which the laws of the State are void. Marshall ruled against Georgia in the case and sided the Cherokee Indians and Plaintiff S A Worcestor, a Missionary to the Cherokee.
