8vo, original calf backed marbled boards. 2 blank leaves, (2), (1-3) 4 - 111, (1)pp., 2 blank leaves. First edition. An association copy containing an inscription in Latin on the second fly-leaf from the author to the Rev. Dr. Abraham Beach, who became the first rector of Christ Church in 1767).The book is additionally inscribed "From the Library of the Rev. Dr. Beach, presented by his daughter Mrs. Rattoone to the Rev. WM I. Kip, Dec. 1836". The book is additionally signed and dated by Kip "New York-Dec. 1836". Kip, who left New York in 1853 later became the first Bishop of the Diocesan Episcopal Church for California. The marbled boards are quite faded with occasional light stains and the spine leather deteriorated. One leaf at rear with a closed horizontal tear half way through otherwise the pages are very crisp and clean. Livingston was the second English preacher in the Dutch Reformed Church in New York and later became the fourth president of Queens College, now Rutgers University. Bookseller Inventory #
