Booklet, color folding map (25 1/2 x 22 inches) tipped into back cover, illustrated in black and white, 88pp, 9 x 6 inches, color pictorial stiff card wrappers (softbound). Light soiling to covers, area of very light dampstaining to upper right corner of cover which is visible only with careful examination in the margin of the first four pages, otherwise interior in very good condition. 1/4 inch circular area of map has become detached from the map (as it was adhered to the back cover of the booklet), map tipped onto inside rear cover along left edge, a few 1/2 separations at fold intersections, overall very clean and crisp condition. This is an early edition of this very interesting booklet published by the railways to encourage settlers to come out to the Northwest. The folding "Map of the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company and the Southern Pacific Company (Lines in Oregon)", covering Oregon and Washington and part of Idaho, is headlined: "The Northwest presents the greatest opportunities for settlers of any portion of "Uncle Sam's" Domain." In the lower margin is added: "For Grains, Grasses, Fruit, Live Stock and Mineral the Territory Embraced in this Map is Unequalled." The chapters include many on farming opportunities, lumbering, mining, fish and fishing; there is a separate section for Portland and for Spokane. At the end there are 14 pages with two sections: "Condensed Information regarding towns on the lines of the Oregon Railroad & Navigation Company" and "Condensed Information - Towns in Western and Southern Oregon on the Southern Pacific Co.
