About this Item

Original card signed by Ms. Venable and an autograph letter to her from R.D. MacLean. Card, circa 1930's. Letter from Hollywood is dated January 25, 1936. Venable (1913-1993) was an American actress who played opposite stars such as Frederic March, Will Rogers and Shirley Temple. She was also the model and voice of the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio. After her brief acting career (1933-1943) she returned to her studies at the UCLA and became a faculty member and taught ancient Greek and Latin, plus organized Greek play with the Classics department. The signed card is a Valentine greeting to her grandfather W.H. Venable, the Ohio author. Ms. Venable appears to have been about six years old at the time. The letter (5 pages) is from R.D. MacLean, a character actor, who acted with Ms. Venable in the 1933 movie "Cradle Song". In the letter, MacLean proposes a profit making Shakespeare festival in Hollywood. Letter has been folded. Both letter and card are clean. Bookseller Inventory # 018362
