12 1/2 x 19 inch lithograph of a pencil drawn portrait, small tear on right edge, taped, and chipping on top. Peter Van Valkenburgh (1870-1955) was a San Francisco Bay area artist who drew several portraits of historical figures. This subject of this one is Christopher "Kit" Carson (1809-1868), frontiersman and scout who gained fame as a guide for John Fremont. Signature of artist and "1941" in bottom left corner of portrait.
