Original vintage certicate signed by Edmund G. Brown while he was a student at Lowell High School in San Francisco. Dated May 27, 1923. (7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches). Some minor staining, lower left corner - 1 1/2 inch long, and evidence of having been folded once. Handwriting and printed portions clear and readable. The certificate was awarded to William Stilson for participation in track by the Lowell High School Student Association. It is signed by Brown in the lower portion and by F. Clark, the principal of the school, and Edward Newman, president of the Student Association. Brown was secretary of the Association and 18 at the time. Edmund "Pat" Brown was born in San Francisco in 1905. He graduated first in his class at law school, becoming a lawyer and partner in his law firm. First the District Attorney in San Francisco, later Attorney General for California and Governor for two terms (1958-1966).
