Although the author professes to present a strictly factual account, he is a liberal, and interprets the events to mean that the Portuguese hate absolutism and the usurpation of D. Miguel.Roussado Gorjão (1777-1856), a native of Mafra, worked for the Contrato do Tabaco from 1809 until 1829, when he was dismissed for holding liberal views.
