A flyer in support of Robert P. Stover and Michael F. Lamm, two Maoist activists with ties to the Weatherman who were charged with a number of serious crimes in May 1970. The men were apprehended by Oakland police following a high speed car chase after they d robbed a chemical factory in broad daylight. According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, the men were wearing false disguises and the car was filled with chemicals for making nitroglyercin, but their supporters claimed that the men were being railroaded by the "pigs." Stover had been on the run since February after he and an accomplice, Lee Wood, tied up, assaulted, and threatened to kill his landlord. They then set fire to the apartment, which contained bomb-making material and radical literature. While Stover stayed in the Bay Area and moved in with Michael Lamm, Wood fled with his pregnant wife Patricia to NYC and were housed by fellow Weathermen. Lamm and Stover were held in prison, Lamm ultimately making bail while Stover did not. Right before their trial was set to being in June, 1971, Lamm s car was found on the Golden Gate Bridge, a suicide note left on the front seat. An extensive search of the water revealed no body and the authorities accused Lamm of faking his suicide. To our knowledge, he never surfaced - alive or dead. Stover was sentenced to five years-to-life at San Quentin. In 1974, Stover was stabbed in the back with a sharpened screwdriver in the yard at San Quentin. There was no motive and the newspaper accounts following his murder identified no suspect. He was 28-years-old. This flyer provides a sympathetic account of the men's exploits and asks for money for their defense. Mimeographed on one side of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet of pink stock. A fine copy.
