Original green cloth with gilt design on front cover, tan cloth on spine with tan lettering on green paper on spine. 7 1/2 X 10 3/4 inches. 272 pages. Only 1,000 copies printed. Deckled edges. Copy has 14 black and white illustrations and a fold out map of the route the settlers took from Independence to California. William G. Johnston was a member of the wagon train to first enter California in 1849. A small light soiled spot on the front cover, otherwise copy is very clean. Pages are very clean and complete.
