Book Description Simon & Schuster, New York, 1961. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Good +. First Edition, Second Printing. Martha Gellhorn (1908 - 1998) was an American novelist, travel writer, and journalist, considered by the London Daily Telegraph, among others, to be one of the greatest war correspondents of the 20th century. She reported on virtually every major world conflict that took place during her 60-year career. Gellhorn was also the third wife of novelist Ernest Hemingway, from 1940 to 1945. (Information from Wikipedia). This book is a novel about a permanent scholar of Chinese Civilization at the Sarbonne in Paris who thought he could float along winning scholarships forever--until women got hold of him! 192 pages, blue cloth boards with silver-stamped spine; boards are beautifully clean and straight and show almost no wear and text is completely unmarked; book would be near fine except that the text was apparently printed on cheap paper with a high acid content and has age-darkened prematurely. Endpapers have scattered foxing, text is uniformly browned with some foxing at the hinge edges and textblock. Dust jacket is white with red and blue print on front and spine; DJ has some very small chips at the spine ends and edges that are repaired inside with transparent tape, and a 3/4" closed tear at the top back that is also tape repaired. DJ also has some minor rub marks. Bookseller Inventory # F06625
