12mo. xiii, 405p. Black and white captioned frontispiece and very many black and white captioned photos and drawings throughout, plus two pages of color specimen tints in the rear of the volume by Winsor & Newton, Limited, London. Green cloth blocked in maroon and with maroon letters on the front cover and the spine and with a vignette in maroon on both covers of a painter's palette surrounded by a "starburst" of tubes of color tint. Some wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, top and bottom of spine just barely beginning to fray, covers lightly soiled, both hinges cracked but still firmly attached and textblock tight, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Born in 1859, Daniel Burleigh Parkhurst was a portrait and landscape painter, teacher, and physician. He is believed to have studied with the American artist William Sartain and also with William Bouguereau and to have lived and worked in Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. He was also a graduate of the the Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia (1900), the leading homeopathic institution of its time. THE PAINTER IN OIL is a classic work on oil painting.
