About this Item

When TCU published this collection in 1969 it was a veritable Who's Who in Texas literature of the time, with John Howard Griffin, John Graves, Tom Pendleton, Larry McMurtry, William Barney (later poet laureate of Texas), and Edwin Shrake contributions. Most of the contributors had a Fort Worth connection and their contributions were all carefully selected representations of their work. John Graves' s contribution, as an example, was not from Goodbye to a River but a short story "The Aztec Dog" that appeared in The Colorado Quarterly and Larry McMurtry's selection is a non-fiction essay from In a Narrow Grave. Much credit should be given to poet/teacher/critic/writer Betsy Colquitt for the selections. The first 300 copies of the first edition were specially printed and numbered for selected friends of TCU through private gifts for this purpose. This is number 65. It is in rare condition, appears unread, very tightly bound, without any names or markings, a stated first edition on the copyright page and the limitation statement and number on the last page. The DJ is likewise bright, clean, not priced like the trade edition, with a tiny spot of clear dampstain on the foot of the spine that hardly shows. Now in mylar sleeve.
