About this Item

Description:

7 x 8 1/2 inches, completed in manuscript. Old folds, short splits to fold lines, light soiling. Embossed stamp. Very good. An uncommon cattle brand certificate from the salad days of the Texas cattle industry. The certificate registers, describes, and illustrates the brand and ear mark of George Zoeller of Kendall County in January, 1883, a boom time for open-range ranching in Texas. A few short years later, the fencing of ranches would forever alter the ranching and cattle range industry throughout the western United States. The document is signed by Gillespie County Clerk I.H. Bierschwale, and embossed with the county seal. Such ephemeral evidence of Texas cattle brands is uncommon indeed. Seller Inventory # WRCAM56042
