reprint, 384pp, half tone frontis port., black cloth lettered in gilt at spine, coloured lettered dustwrapper (black and blue on white, mirroring the 1st edition dustwrapper nwhich was black and white on blue), biography of Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC, from his time at Stowe School, Merton College, Oxford and member of the University Air Squadron, graduation in 1939 was soon followed by the outbreak of WW2 and after formal RAF flying training the early award of a DSO marked him for the future. Recognised as a leader and an exceptional pilot he attained the rank of Group Captain by the age of 25, commanded the special duties 617 (Dam Busters) squadron after Guy Gibson as well as helping to develop low level target marking and high level precision bombing.
