First edition (not stated). 548 pages. Hardcover; H 28.75cm x L 22.25cm. Light blue dust jacket with some bumping and nicks along edges, small light moisture stain at top left of front panel; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Red cloth, spine head slightly bumped. Bright gilt stamped lettering on front board provides a different title than that which appears on the title page: LOWNDES COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; A PHOTOGRAPHIC REMINISCENCE 1830-1980, SESQUICENTENNIAL EDITION, VOLUME I (despite the title's implication no succeeding volumes were ever published). B/w photographs; illustrations; maps. Reviews the history of the settlements of Lowndes County, Mississippi with innumerable photos of individuals, families, civic organizations, companies, streetscapes, schools, etc. with the primary focus being Columbus but towns east and west of the Tombigbee River are included too: Caledonia, Kolola Springs, Lone Oak, Woodlawn, Steens, Black Creek, Rural Hill, Mt. Vernon, McCrary, New Hope, Dunbar, Forreston, McIntyre, Bent Oak, Artesia, Mayhew, Waverly, Crawford, and Plum Grove. Interior leaves are bright and clean and without the foxing which seems to afflict most copies. A near fine copy in a very good dust jacket of an uncommon local history reference. Please note that this large book has an approximate shipping weight of 5 pounds and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
