An elegant production by Chris Pichler: Small-size volume format. Titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Robert Heinecken. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Robert Heinecken's "Studiesnineteenseventy". His first and only contribution to the One Picture Book Series. "It is natural, when faced with photographic negatives, to hold them up to the light. It is the same when faced with Robert Heinecken's set of reversed images from a 1970's top-shelf magazine. Heinecken produced these incredible photograms, showing verso and recto pages simultaneously over thirty years ago. A long-forgotten off-shoot from his famous ARE YOU REAL portfolio, published in 1968, they were re-discovered only recently in Heinecken's archives. A pioneer of recycled imagery, Heinecken is universally recognized for his role in redefining the boundaries of photography as an art medium" (Publisher's blurb). "It was once believed that Heinecken's early photograms were lost. After a fire in his studio, several household moves, then a relocation from LA to Chicago, he finally unpacked his belongings and found this early work which, thirty years later, seems more innocent and more beautiful in its graphic sensuality" (Vogue). Indeed, the eroticism of the images is somehow heightened, not diminished, by the abstracting technique Heinecken used. An absolute "must-have" title for Robert Heinecken collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Edition, indicated as such in black pen on the Back Limitation Page. It comes with an original print that is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully numbered, dated, and signed in pencil on verso by the artist/photographer: "__/500 Robert Heinecken '02". This title is a great photography book. This is one of very few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: This is one of the rarest and most beautiful titles in the Series. Copies that turn up online command $900 and more. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. 12 duotone plates, 1 original print. One of the greatest artist/photographers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy.
