Description:

ORIGINAL US ARMY AIR FORCES RESTRICTED PUBLICATION REVISED TO 30 JANUARY 1945 LACKING ITS ORIGINAL COVER TITLE LEAF BUT OTHERWISE COMPLETE; since this copy lacks its original title page this edition/version is presumed from its Army Air Forces publication number (AN 01-5EE-1) and descriptive data provided on page 1. Paged as i-ii, 1-64, 64A/blank, 65-74, 74A-74D, 75-92, 92A-92B, 93-116, 116A-116D, 117-134, 134A-134F, 135-194 pages. Sheets are three-hole punched but are all bound by a rusty staple at top left; top left corner of missing title leaf remains under staple; some soiling to page i which is the Table of Contents leaf and now, of course, serves as the manual's cover; soiling upon top edge; page 194 browned at staple with minimal soiling. B/w photographs. Illustrations. Appendices with charts and tables. The USAF Museum website (www.wpafb.af.mil/museum) explains the nuances among the various B-24 models as the aircraft's design evolved in response to Luftwaffe pilots ascertaining the bomber's vulnerability to frontal attacks. Hence gradual defensive improvements were made between 1942 and 1945 by placing an A-6 tail turret in the nose and adding a staggered waist gunner position as well as a "High-Hat" top gun turret. This is the scarce original Army Air Forces publication for the B-24 rather than the more common maintenance and instruction volumes published by Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation. A very good copy if not for the missing cover sheet. Bookseller Inventory #
