4to. Red brad-bound cardboard covers. Wear to yapp edge. Faint toning internally. Near fine overall. An original script of a play from the editor and publisher of Something Else Press. Described by the Fluxus writer as "a lickety split mystery," DEATH & THE NICKEL CIGAR is a philosophical, Dada-esque/Theatre of the Absurd-inspired production, but otherwise remains a rather elusive work in the Higgins oeuvre. DICK HIGGINS: A Bio/Bibliography(Threadneedle Editions, 1979) lists the title under 1972 as an "ephemeral publication," but provides no details. And Richard Kostelanetz (DICTIONARY OF THE AVANT GARDE pp. 100-101) mentions the work (by title only) as representative of one of Higgins' "five methods" - "Expressionism" ("reflects personality or personal experience"), but again provides no elaboration. It does not appear to have ever been officially published and it is unclear if the work was even ever performed. The title page directs inquiries to Jerry Benjamin, performance artist and poet, who often directed in the experimental theater community (including other works of Higgins'). OCLC located seven copies of the script. A scarce and curious work from this prolific Fluxus figure. Bookseller Inventory #
