xxiv,228,[4]pp. Small quarto. Contemporary calf, spine gilt. Boards rubbed, hinges tender but strong. Quite clean internally. Very good. Third Spanish edition, after the rare first two editions of 1681 and 1682, of Exquemelin's famous book, the classic account of pirates in the Caribbean, on the Spanish Main, and in the South Seas. First published in Amsterdam in 1678 as DE AMERICAENSCHE ZEE- ROOVERS, it next appeared in Cologne in Spanish in 1681. Henry Morgan, who is accused of a number of misdeeds in this book, actually brought a libel suit against the publication which was settled in his favor. The Spanish translation, from which the English translation of 1684 was also made, is quite free and adds considerable content which is not found in the original Dutch version. Rare in the trade. Title: PIRATAS DE LA AMERICA, Y LUZ A LA DEFENSA DE...
Publisher: Ramon Ruiz, Madrid
Publication Date: 1793
Seller: Il Tuffatore, Alcorcón, Spain
Encuadernación de tapa dura. Condition: Bien. Dust Jacket Condition: Bien. Julio Vivas (illustrator). Edit. Argos Vergara, S.A., 1984 Barcelona.
