This FIRST EDITION is in VERY GOOD++ condition especially at over 90 years old with VERY SCARCE DUSTJACKET in GOOD+ condition. Title page has 1917 at bottom of page with no other dates or subsequent printings. Book is in VERY GOOD++ condition with 9/10 beige textured paper boards over cream colored paper binding with black pastedown on spine with bold and bright gilt lettering "VILLON'S POEMS" with gilt fleur-de-lis and horizontal lines as framing. Pastedown is As New with book's spine tips and corners true or gently bumped but not worn. There is very mild edge wear with one (1/4") bump and attached chip on top edge of front board otherwise book is NEAR FINE with binding and insides tight, bright, clean and unmarked. NO previous owner's and NO LIBRARY markings, NO FOXING. DUSTJACKET is complete and covered in Brodart, unclipped - although there is no price point and all four inside flap corners are cut diagonally. DW has white paper with bold black lettering and border. DW has much rubbing and soiling with many finger prints and smudges on light background otherwise DW is Very Good - . Spine is sunned with spine tips and corners bumped and lightly worn. There is a 1/4" chip still attached on top edge of front cover and on bottom half of front cover where price was there is still the word "NET" but the price has been marked out. ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON'S biographical and critical essay on FRANCOIS VILLON, the vagabond student poet of medieval Paris, appears for the first time in this edition as an introduction to the standard English translation by JOHN PAYNE.
