Greenish-blue cloth with some toning and soiling as well as a few light stains, spine ends scuffed with heel frayed, light wear at tips of board corners. Spine decorated with blue lettering ascending from heel with flaking to initial "P" of "Poppies." Front board decorated with gilt stamped title lettering at top and gilt stamped author lettering at bottom with center floral vignette red, dark blue, and muted yellow. Remnant stubs of removed front free endpaper. Purple ink stamp of "St. Francis Welfare League." on front pastedown, front flyleaf recto, frontispiece recto, title page, and rear pastedown as well as at tops of text pages 7, 11, 19, 23, 27, 37, 43, 47, and 51. Binding stressed between four quire intersection but still reasonably firm. Two pages of publisher advertisements at rear for "The Children's Friend Series." Total of three b/w illustrated plates all on unpaged leaves: frontispiece and plates between pages 36-37 and 50-51.
