About this Item

This FIRST EDITION is in VERY GOOD condition especially at over 150 years old. Book's copyright page lists 1853 but bottom of the title page lists 1854 in roman numerals. Book has chocolate brown cloth blind-stamped with G.P. logo with fancy decorations on the middle of boards inside triple framing. Book's spine tips and corners are bumped and worn with tiny chips at bottom tip and 1/4" chip across top tip with 1/8" x 1/2" chip missing from spine edge near front board near top tip. Title page says "reprinted from "Putnam's Monthly." Illustrated by A. HOPPIN with 7 inserted black and white plates and small illustration in middle of title page. Binding and insides are tight, bright, clean and unmarked with only very mild sporadic foxing. Previous owner has written in "by George William Curtis" on title page as Curtis's name is not listed. Curtis, whose pseudonym Paul Potiphar gives us this title, was an American journalist born in 1824 who became editor of Harper's Weekly in 1857. THE POTIPHAR PAPERS, copyright 1854, 5.25" x 7.5", 251pp. Bookseller Inventory # 000696
