Contemporary half-leather binding; dark brown leather spine with five slightly raised bands, scuffing along joints and at ends, gilt stamped title and author lettering remains bright, faded/toned sticker affixed at center compartment with white ink notation at lower compartment. Marbled paper boards rubbed, wear to leather corners. Marbled edges and endpapers. Front pastedown features the large personal "ex-libris" bookplate of Frank A. Vanderlip which is additionally illustrated with pensive seated figure followed by eight-line poem "While patient Nature, brooding in content . . ." New York financier, banker, and Palos Verdes, California real estate speculator Frank A. Vanderlip served as the Assistant Secretary of Treasury for President William McKinley's second term. Foxing to front free endpaper verso, front flyleaf, half-title, rear flyleaf, and rear free endpaper recto with latter also having "Sociology" stamped in purple ink near page center. Short fore-edge margin tear and crease to pages 205-206. No interior library markings readily apparent upon a quick perusal. A few scattered spots of foxing and soiling to interior pages which, overall, remain quite clean. Binding is firm.
