About this Item

Printed by offset lithography on a 19 3/4 x 26 1/4 inch sheet. Lightly tanned. Some spotting and staining in the margins (well outside the image). Good, suitable for framing. A nice example of the work of the noted artist and illustrator of Texas and the West, Harold Bugbee. This print is after an original pen and ink drawing by Bugbee, dated 1949, and shows a group of more than a dozen horses grazing in a large field. Scrub brush and small trees dot the area, and a wind vane is shown in the background, atop a small hill. Bugbee was especially noted for his aptitude at drawing horses, which is evident here. Harold Bugbee (1900-63) was one of the most accomplished and respected Western artists and illustrators of his day. He was born in Massachusetts but moved to Texas as a teenager, and was an eyewitness to the ranch life that was quickly passing into myth. Early in his career he was among the most prominent artists providing illustrations of the West for books, magazines, and newspapers, while later in life he concentrated on paintings and murals. "Having spent most of his life on the family ranch, Bugbee provided in his work an authentic insight into daily ranch routine in the Panhandle" - HANDBOOK OF TEXAS. An evocative Bugbee image. HANDBOOK OF TEXAS 1, p.818. Bookseller Inventory # WRCAM 46194
