About this Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1977. First Edition. A near-fine copy with lovely endpapers decorated with pictures of Petworth Park, Sussex, and Charlecote Park, Warwickshire, both properties of the National Trust, in green cloth with bright gilt lettering, corners slightly bumped, a faint vertical line on the rear panel, and a small black remainder mark on the bottom text edge, in a near-fine dustwrapper designed by Reynolds Stone, price-clipped and with minor soiling to the rear panel, which features a photograph of Lees-Milne, who has composed (so far) ten diaries of British life in 20th century. He is compared favorably to Pepys and Virginia Woolf. This book covers 1944-1945, was printed in England, and is identical to the British edition (Chatto & Windus), except for the substituion of Scribners' name. Scarce. Bookseller Inventory # 858
