The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America named him the 2015 recipient of the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award.[3] His work is primarily hard science fiction, using big science concepts and theoretical physics. It also often includes elements of detective fiction and adventure stories. His fantasy includes the series The Magic Goes Away, rational fantasy dealing with magic as a non-renewable resource. Niven was born in Los Angeles.[2] He is a great-grandson of Edward L. Doheny, an oil tycoon who drilled the first successful well in the Los Angeles City Oil Field in 1892, and also was subsequently implicated in the Teapot Dome scandal.[4] He briefly attended the California Institute of Technology[5] and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics (with a minor in psychology) from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas in 1962. He also completed a year of graduate work in mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles. On September 6, 1969, he married Marilyn Wisowaty, a science fiction and Regency literature fan (Wikipedia). Seller Inventory # 4709

POSTAGE: Unregistered and uninsured shipments are made entirely at the buyer's risk. We, therefore, urge our customers to use a service of registered mail, with the option of additional insurance, depending on the shipment's value. In March 2014 the 'International Signed For' (registered mail) service - used in connection with overseas surface mail shipments - was withdrawn by the overseas postal authorities, meaning that surface mail shipments can no longer be registered or insured. To enjoy the security of registered/insured mail, the air mail AIRSURE service must be used at the appropriate additional cost. Although air mail is more expensive than surface mail, it is also a great deal safer and faster.
PLEASE NOTE THAT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATION RECEIVED FROM ABEBOOKS WITH REFERENCE TO THE CHANGES IN THE COMPANY'S RETURN POLICY EFFECTIVE 23 JULY, 2015, ALL FUTURE SHIPMENTS FROM US TO DESTINATIONS OUTSIDE THE UK WILL BE SENT BY TRACKED AIR-MAIL AT THE APPROPRIATE EXTRA COST. THE ADDITIONAL POSTAGE WILL BE QUOTED.
