The upper spine has a cloth tear that obliterates two letters of the title. Some other edgewear at the spine ends which are frayed and the corners. A neatly handwritten inscription "To my good friend" appears on the front free endpaper, with the names of both giver and receiver and dated Sept. 1894, the year of publication.
