About this Item

1st Printing. Unpaginated. Published in 1988. Collection of color photographs on subject. One of the most sumptuously beautiful photography books of the 1980's. The first appearance of the title in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A stupendous production by Dennis Stock: Oversize-volume format in wide rectangular shape. Black cloth boards with white titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Dennis Stock. Introduction by Philip Conisbee. The photographs are reproduced in miniature and appended with complete captions at the end. Sturdy pictorial hard board slipcase. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper by Grafiche Lema in Italy to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with black titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Dennis Stock's "Provence Memories". A complete collection of pictures on the legendary place. Provence is Paradise: "It conjures images of sunbeaten stone farmhouses, fields overflowing with olive tress, the deep yellows of thousands of sunflowers bending in unison with the breeze. This is the France of Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin, the France that has inspired generation after generation of artists" (Publisher's blurb). Who now include Dennis Stock: "He has summoned his own recollections of this magical realm. A rich photographic chronicle of the compellingly beautiful Southern Region of France, he draws upon the natural opulence and sensuousness he found there over several years' residence. Stock has produced a stunning portfolio that will entrance all who have been touched by Provence and those still to come" (Philip Conisbee). An absolute "must-have" title for Dennis Stock collectors. This title is now collectible. This is one of few copies of the First American Edition/First Printing still available online and is in fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a beauty. A scarce copy thus. 80 color plates. One of the finest American photographers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER DENNIS STOCK TITLE IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0821217151.
