Blue silk-covered boards, gilt lettering, gilt and raised silk designs, deckle edges. This is #156 out of 1000 limited copies of this first edition. Significant rubbing, moderate foxing and light soiling to boards, although gilt on front board is legible and somewhat bright. Most of blue silk is missing from spine and extremities. Corners are moderately to significantly bumped. Front gutter is moderately cracked and rear gutter is lightly cracked, but hinges and binding are tight. Three light circular stains to rear board, as though a water glass once sat atop the book. 1 & 5/8" by 5/8" sticker residue on rear board. Trivial to light foxing to interior pages, otherwise interior is quite clean. Edition page (rear flyleaf) is 2/3 loose, but all other pages are tight. All 66 tipped-in photogravures are present and generally bright. Some pages have small numbers written lightly in pencil in the corner, but there are no markings otherwise. Near Fine Condition. A slight hint of foxing on the endpapers only and not affecting the content of the book at all. Black silk is absolutely bright and totally unfaded.
