Book Description Shanghai: A.S. Watson & Co., 1922. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. 3rd Edition. Third Edition (originally published in 1920). Folio, 29cm x 38.5cm. Hard boards covered in black silk with leather spine and corners all covered in Gold Leaf and lettering and decoration in gilt to front board. This alternative Black & Gold binding is much rarer than the standard Blue Silk covering; less than 1 in 10 copies has the variant binding. Forty page introduction by Putnam Weale followed by the 66 photogravures tipped into the recto of each page with detailed caption opposite. Printed and bound by Kelly & Walsh in Shanghai. Near Fine Condition. A slight hint of foxing on the endpapers only and not affecting the content of the book at all. Black silk is absolutely bright and totally unfaded. Gold leaf is brighter on the spine than corners and may have been re-applied at some point. A beautiful copy of a most sumptuous book. Bookseller Inventory # B0201
