About this Item

A series of four short poems from Mayan Elder Chan K'in to mark his passing at the age of 116. Printed on handmade paper, along with one title card and one with publication information (see below for full text in Spanish & English). The six cards are wrapped in a handmade paper cover with a dried leaf containing the title printed onto the leaf, attached to a slender stiff cord which holds the envelope together. Published in the Selva Lacondona in Chiapas, Mexico. From a small tag attached to the outside: "The little flower books and boxes are handmade from natural fibers by Maya Indians in Southern Mexico. We use carnations, pansies, marigolds, fennel leaves, asparagus ferns, cornsilk, sugarcane, banana fronds, fig bark and bamboo."Esta caja parlante fue hecha como un pequeno homenaje al autor de estas palabras. el patriarca lacandon, Chan K'In Viejo, quien murio el 23 de diciembre de 1996 a la edad de 116 anos. el forro y los papeles interiores fueron elaborados por mujeres y hombres mayas, utilizando flores y fibras renovables de la selva como pensamientos, cepa de platano rastrojo de milpa, liquen, hojarasca, bejucos y xate en: Taller Lenateros Flavio A.
