First the BOOK: Second printing, association copy - SIGNED by the author and also by American actress Gertrude Norman. Clean decorated American trade binding. Golden beige cloth boards with orange, white and black coat of arms and crown decoration with orange line border on cover, scrolls and pen decoration with orange line border on spine. Gold lettering, gilt top page edges. Tiny spot of wear at top rear spine corner. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean. Inscribed and signed by author on front free endpaper: "To Miss Marcia Van Dresser, The original Princess of Eboli, with the best wishes of F. Marion Crawford. Nov. 1900." (Marcia Van Dresser was a well known American opera and concert singer). On the front fixed endpaper is a typed note (pasted on) which is also intriguing: "This book I send to The Museum of the City of New York for their Theatre Collection in loving memory of my friend Marcia van Dresser in the dramatisation of this charming story by F. Marion Crawford." which goes on to tell of experiences with and admiration for F. Marion Crawford and Marcia Van Dresser, and states the the book and program are being sent to the Museum of the City of New York for their Theatre Collection "in the hope it will be spared destruction in this tragic period (World War II) when so much that is beautiful, noble and fair is being so ruthlessly destroyed. - Gertrude Norman - England. May, 1940." Gertrude Norman was an American stage and motion picture actress of the 1910s through 1930s. Book note also refers to Viola Allen (see below). Eight illustrations. 367 pages. Very slight horizontal crease to front cover. No chipping or tears. SIGNED by two cast members, Viola Allen and Robert T. Haines. Pages are all clean, no marks.
