Bright, immaculate DJ has the requisite print error on line 3 of DJ front flap: "UnderQueen", confirming it is 1st US edition,1st Printing. DJ shows no shelfwear or damage of any kind other than a trace of wrinkling and is now in clear archival-quality Brodart jacket (easily removable, if desired). Book is immaculate and completely unmarked. There are no remainder marks;, x-library detritus; bookseller notes or stickers; no bookplates ,inscriptions, notes, underlining; soiling; no dog-eared, creased, loose or missing pages. Cream cloth cover boards with gilt cover and spine titles, are immaculate and lie flat and square. Text block, hinges and binding are sturdy; even corners are pointed. Interior pages show no age toning and are white, bright, lavishly illustrated with 88 full page, black and white plates. The book examines the history of Palmyra, an ancient city-state in present-day Syria which had an advanced civilization fusing the cultural values of the East with the ideology of the West. The city is famous for its resistance to Roman imperial rule. The city which had an empire that stretched from Asia Minor to Egypt finally was defeated by the Roman forces under the Emperor Aurelian in 272 AD. The author examines the ruins of the city with special attention to the results of the Polish archeology teams led by the author.
