Book Description Pynson Printers, New York, 1939. First edition, one of 370 copies signed by Dard Hunter and the publisher, Elmer Adler. This copy additionally inscribed by Hunter on the front blank. Quarto. [3, blank], [1-4], 5-129, [5], [specimens]. With eighty-four photogravure illustrations and twenty-seven tipped-in specimens of Indian handmade paper. Publisher's quarter black calf by Gerlach over colorful, blocked Indian cloth, smooth spine with gilt lettering and blue bands. In a very good slipcase with a matching number. Prospectus laid in. Very minor rubbing to spine extremities, else a fine copy,A wonderful production by America's foremost papermaker and scholar. After travelling to the Far East and publishing a book on Asian papermaking, Dard Hunter took two trips to India to study handmade paper techniques there. This book is the result. Lavishly illustrated by the author's own photographs, printed on high quality paper and containing twenty-seven large specimens, this book is one of Hunter's best productions.
