About this Item

First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, to Herb Sterne from Kevin Brownlow. Inscribed on the title page: ÒTo Herb Sterne, What an amazing career youÕve had. Warmest wishes! Kevin Brownlow.Ó Some moisture stains to the blank margins of a few pages, else very good in a lightly chipped and used dust jacket. Herb Sterne was a Hollywood publicist and a close friend of director D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, and Lillian Gish as well as many other later Hollywood notables. SterneÕs relationship with Griffith is related in Richard SchickelÕs Griffith biography and Gish mentions him several times in her autobiography. Thought by many critics to be the finest book of film history ever written, at the very least the finest book on silent film. Listed in 100 Books on Hollywood & the Movies.
